Since its inception in 2012, the International Space Apps Challenge, a part of NASA’s Open Innovation Program, has become the biggest global hackathon in the world, engaging thousands of citizens each year across the globe to work with NASA in designing innovative solutions to global challenges using open source data. At Space Apps events, teams of technologists, scientists, designers and entrepreneurs work together to develop answers to some of the most pressing challenges on earth and space using publicly available NASA data.
