CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: APPOINTMENT OF AN ASSESSOR AND MODERATOR FOR THE CODETRIBE QCTO PROGRAMME

mLab believes that when youth are empowered with the right skills, resources, and mentorship to innovate and create digital solutions, they unlock opportunities that drive inclusive socio-economic growth and contribute to South Africa’s digital economy.

As part of its Skills Acceleration efforts, mLab runs the CodeTribe Academy, a coding and software development programme designed to develop job-ready digital talent through practical training, mentorship, and real-world project exposure. In alignment with the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) standards, mLab seeks to ensure that all training and assessment processes meet the highest quality and compliance requirements.

To this end, mLab invites qualified and accredited professionals to submit applications for the provision of Assessment and Moderation services for the CodeTribe QCTO Programme, specifically for the following qualifications:

  • Occupational Certificate: Software Developer (Qualification ID: 118707)
  • Occupational Certificate: Software Engineer (Qualification ID: 119458)

Scope of work

mLab seeks applications from registered and qualified Assessors and Moderators to conduct assessments and moderation of learners enrolled in the CodeTribe QCTO-accredited Software Developer (118707) and Software Engineer (119458) programmes.

The contracted professionals will be responsible for ensuring that assessments are conducted in accordance with QCTO and SETA requirements and that the programme outcomes are achieved with the highest levels of integrity and quality assurance.

The contracted parties are required to fulfill the tasks outlined below:

  1. Assessment Duties
    • Conduct learner assessments in line with the outcomes of QCTO qualifications 118707 and 119458.
    • Evaluate learner portfolios, practical projects, and evidence against the QCTO qualification outcomes.
    • Ensure all assessments adhere to prescribed standards and are properly documented.
    • Provide detailed assessment feedback and recommendations for learner progression.
  2. Moderation Duties
    • Review and verify assessments for consistency, fairness, and compliance.
    • Ensure the assessment instruments and evidence meet QCTO quality requirements.
    • Conduct moderation reports and provide recommendations for quality improvement.
  3. Quality Assurance & Compliance
    • Maintain accurate assessment and moderation records in accordance with QCTO and SETA requirements.
    • Liaise with mLab’s training management team and relevant authorities to ensure smooth coordination.
    • Ensure adherence to all relevant policies, procedures, and ethical standards in assessment and moderation.

Deliverables

The appointed parties are expected to deliver the following:

  • Validated and signed Assessment Reports for all learners assessed.
  • Completed and compliant Moderation Reports.
  • Consolidated learner competency records and evidence for submission to the QCTO/SETA.
  • Recommendations and feedback for programme improvement.

Applications Requirements

Applications are invited from registered Assessors and Moderators who meet the following minimum criteria:

  • Valid Assessor and/or Moderator registration certificate with the relevant SETA.
  • Proven experience in assessment and moderation of ICT-related qualifications, preferably for QCTO IDs 118707 and/or 119458.
  • Familiarity with QCTO curriculum and assessment guidelines.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in assessment, moderation, or education quality assurance.

The application must comprise of the following:

  • A detailed cover letter outlining your approach and availability.
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) highlighting relevant experience and credentials.
  • Proof of Assessor/Moderator registration with the relevant SETA.
  • Copies of academic qualifications and certifications.
  • References from at least two previous institutions or clients.
  • Fee structure or professional rates per learner.

ASSESSMENT OF APPLICATIONS

Applications will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Relevant qualifications, certifications and accreditation.
  • Technical expertise and experience in QCTO-aligned assessment and moderation.
  • Demonstrated experience in QCTO-aligned assessment and moderation (especially for 118707 and 119458).
  • Methodology and quality assurance approach.
  • Availability within the project timeline.

ANTICIPATED DURATION OF THE CONTRACT

12 month period during which assessment and moderation will be required on a needs/ad-hoc basis.
