Augie Rakow, Corporate Attorney to startups, Orrick’s Emerging Companies Groups
Augie Rakow is a corporate attorney in Orrick’s Emerging Companies Group where he advises startups and investors who are building the future of how we live and work. In addition to leading this webinar, Augie will be joining participants in Chisnau, Moldova for the VentureOut Dragon’s Den finalists event. Augie has advised large mobile companies such as Nokia, as well as a wide array of mobile startups such as RealityCap which offers 3D scanning tools for smartphones and MakeGamesWithUs which is an iOS game publishing aimed at high school and college students. Augie studied theological history at Harvard University before becoming a lawyer and is one of the few Americans who has taken the Japanese bar exam. He also worked for many years in intellectual property before focusing on startup corporate work. Super Lawyers magazine named him a Rising Star, an honor reserved for no more than 2.5 percent of the lawyers in California. Augie is the current president of the Harvard Club of San Francisco. Previously, he was the Senior Associate at Rudyard Partners, a private equity firm focused on investing in consumer technologies. Ovidiu serves as Chairman of the Board of Advisors of AIESEC DC and Vice-Chairman of MIT Enterprise Forum of Washington DC. About VentureOut
infoDev at the World Bank and CRDF Global announce VentureOut, a new initiative to propel expansion-ready mobile entrepreneurs into enticing international markets. The program will run from August to November 2013 and help hundreds of entrepreneurs through hands-on training, virtual learning opportunities, mentorship, international exposure, and seed funding. Entrepreneurs will come from 33 countries from local technology community partners located in eight countries: Armenia, Jamaica, Kenya, Macedonia, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa and Trinidad & Tobago.
This program reaches out to the community of entrepreneurs and also identifies advanced entrepreneurs during a mobile app competition applications accepted between August 14 and September 2, 2013. The top 12 entrepreneurs from the competition will meet in Moldova this October 30-31, 2013 for the Dragon’s Den, a pitching exposition to compete for $10,000 in seed funding.
